The mission of youth ministry at Brighton United Methodist Church is: To love youth where they are, to encourage them in developing their relationship to God, to provide them with opportunities for nurture and growth, and to challenge them to respond to God’s call to serve in their communities. We accomplish our mission by helping youth to: Establish a Christian Foundation; Grow in Faith; Experience Co-operation; Lead People; and Establish and Maintain Healthy Relationship. 1. Help our teens establish and maintain a strong, Christian Foundation upon which to build the rest of their lives. We do this through worship, Bible study, outreach, and service. 2. Growth in Faith. We help teens grow in faith by providing guidance and direction through spiritual formation as they sift through their own, everyday choices. 3. Experience Co-operation. UMYF helps teens experience the value of working together with other people in order to accomplish things none could do alone. Co-operation with Jesus Christ and our neighbors is the key to being church in this world. 4. Leading People. UMYF is an opportunity for teens to experience the truth that accountability is as valuable as freedom. Here, mutual respect, peer encouragement, and celebrating what we’ve done well together are key values. 5. Establishing and Maintaining Healthy Relationships. Through faith, service, fellowship, and fun teens become aware of what boundaries are, and why it’s important to respect them. This is a tool that helps develop faith and friendships strong enough to last a life-time.UMYF’ers help by serving as greeters, ushers, and liturgists during Sunday services each month. We serve our community as volunteers through missions like Denver Urban Ministries, Almost Home, and Habitat for Humanity. We help seniors by shoveling snow. We’re always ready to help our Pastor with whatever project she has in mind. We earn the money to go together to Christian concerts, retreats, and conferences—and we love to praise God with 1,000 people our age!
